About Richard Palu:

Richard Palu, M.D. is an ophthalmic plastic surgeon and a specialist in cosmetic and reconstructive surgery around the eyes. Dr. Palu works closely with each patient to individualize their care to enhance or restore a natural and refreshed appearance.

Dr. Palu is Clinical Associate Professor of Ophthalmology at New York University School of Medicine and an Attending Physician in the Section of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at New York University Medical Center. In addition, he is an Attending Physician at The Valley Hospital and Hackensack University Medical Center, both in Bergen County, New Jersey. He is board certified in ophthalmology and fellowship trained in ophthalmic plastic and reconstructive surgery.

Dr. Palu received his medical degree from New York University School of Medicine. He completed his residency in ophthalmology at New York University Medical Center, where he served as chief resident in his final year. He then completed a prestigious ASOPRS fellowship in ophthalmic plastic and reconstructive surgery at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary / Harvard Medical School. He has taught ophthalmic plastic and reconstructive surgery at New York University School of Medicine and New York University Medical Center since 1989. He has been an invited speaker at national and international meetings on the subject of plastic surgery around the eyes.

His practice involves cosmetic surgery of the eyelids and eyebrows and reconstructive surgery of the eyelids, eyebrows, the orbit, and the nasolacrimal system. In addition to his individual expertise in these areas, he routinely works in conjunction with dermatologists, otolaryngologists, neurosurgeons, and plastic surgeons in a multidisciplinary approach to patient care.

His research interests include studies of eyelid and orbital anatomy as it applies to clinical and surgical care and the effects of periocular surgery on the baseline function of eye.
