Dr. Bernhart is pleasant and I feel comfortable with her.
Dr. Anita Bernhard was great, for noticing a rash on my chest, and I told her I had been scratching a lot, and also my back, but hadn't looked at my back. She was pretty shocked, and told me the name of the 2 blood tests for maybe pancreatic cancer.... Amylase, & Lipase. My regular Doctor Gebeyehu with Honor Health in Peoria, for many years, had offered that test months ago, but didn't say what the test was for. The lab didn't know either, so I didn't get them tested. I just got my routine blood work, and skipped those 2. When Dr. Bernhard mentioned the names of the 2 tests, I instantly remembered that I had refused those. So, I then got an order for the tests from Dr. Gebeyehu, at the Honor Health lab on Shea. The results showed a high result for both tests. So I am thankful for Dr. Bernhard for bringing the rash to my attention, and someone in the room wrote the test names down for me, because I knew I wouldn't remember them. Then, I waited 4 days to get set up for the lab at Honor Health lab on Shea, and got the results, which were high. The problem was that both my Honor Health doctor, Dr. Gebeyehu, and their lab were confused when they got something from Women's Health saying I was to come and get the lab tests with them, and at my appt. with her the other day, she asked if I had gotten the tests from Dr. Bernhard. It was confusing to her, and me also, since I have been with Honor Health so many years. It was confusing to all, even though I really appreciated that she was letting me know what my rash might mean. I even looked it up online at Cleveland clinic, and sure enough it did include a rash as a possible symptom for pancreatic cancer. which surprised me. That night I had at 12:20 AM, I got a call from Dr. Gebeyehu's night assistant that my test results showed very dangerous low potassium, and to go immediately to the John C Lincoln emergency room! Yikes! I was told my potassium was dangerously low, and that I could have a heart attack. I got a ride there and ended up having intervenous potassium chloride pumped into my arm for 3 hours. The doctor said I could go home if I take the 6 potassium chloride pills she gave me to take home. They also gave me a prescription for 20 more pills, and to eat something with the pills and drink LOTS of water. So, yes, I thank and appreciate Dr. Bernhard's mentioning my rash, and it led to me getting help, and still trying to get to the bottom of all they found in the blood tests...possible pancreatic, heart, and liver and kidney problems. I just got an order for a CT scan from my doctor, at SMIL for Aug. 4. It's been scary and exhausting.. So sorry, about the long answer, but I was confused why even my Dr. Gebeyehu, and also me, got requests to come to the lab you use to get tested. I want to keep my Dr., lab, and hospital with the same company, to help keep it all organized so they all have all my records coordinated. Thank you!
