About Annie Liljegren:
Ever since I was a little girl, the female anatomy has always fascinated me. My interest was very well known and in high school my human anatomy teacher introduced me to the nursing career. It was through my undergraduate nursing education that I realized how drawn I was to pregnancy, labor and birth. I can still remember even the smallest details of the first birth I witnessed as a nursing student. It was truly a miracle! At that moment, I was hooked and it was solidified that working in labor and delivery was my calling. After graduation, I provided care to women with both low- and high-risk pregnancies throughout the pregnancy and postpartum periods. Working in this area gave me a sincere passion and love for providing holistic care to women, newborns and their families. I experienced many highs and lows as a nurse and feel so grateful for each of those experiences. Without my six years of nursing experience, I wouldn’t be the provider I am today!
After moving to the Twin Cities area, I had my first opportunity to work with certified nurse midwives. I was blown away by the holistic and compassionate care they provided each of their patients. With hours of research, self-reflection and discussions with several midwives, I knew my true calling in life was to become a midwife.
Throughout my midwifery education at the University of Minnesota, I had incredible experiences with a variety of preceptors (mentors). The more I learned and experienced as a women’s health care provider, the more I knew becoming a midwife was the right path for me. I thoroughly enjoy being with women and their families during some of the most intimate moments of their lives. My passion and mission as a midwife is to provide care and education to women of all ages and to encourage them to have an active role in their health and wellness. I always feel very honored when I am asked to be a part of a woman’s care, whether she’s seeking out contraceptive information or I am present for the birth of her child.
I am originally from west central Minnesota and grew up in a small town, with a population of 1,000 people. Moving to the Twin Cities was initially an adjustment but now I call it my home. I currently live in Maple Grove and enjoy spending time with my family and friends, exercising and traveling.
