About Charet Pelkey:
I have been a physical therapist since 2001 and started seeing women for GYN pelvic health conditions in 2002. I have a passion for working with women of all ages, wherever they are in their life cycle. My perspective: I work from an “everything is connected” viewpoint. I jokingly say that I treat everything from the ribs to the knees, but really it extends beyond those boundaries. Every woman is carefully evaluated and I treat each patient as a whole person rather than focusing on just symptoms. Looking at how the symptoms impact quality of life and function is at the heart of what I do.
Postural changes and pain related to pregnancy, core weakness, tight muscles, scar tissue and restricted connective tissue are among some of my many ObGyn physical therapy interests. I also address GYN pelvic pain and pelvic muscle incoordination that are the result of, or result in pelvic organ prolapse, urinary and bowel incontinence/urgency and constipation. Last, I treat pelvic pain where there is a diagnosis of endometriosis, ovarian cysts and history or multiple abdominal surgeries.
From my years of working with women, I find that many don’t realize that they have more control over their body than they think. They put off seeking care and live with discomfort because they think there isn’t anything they can do about it.
It’s gratifying when I only need to see a women 1 to 2 times to treat incontinence (urinary leaking) or constipation because all she needed was the education and the tools to manage it herself. This is the “cool” factor of my work and what keeps me showing up every day. I love educating women about their bodies, particularly when it leads to some big changes in a person’s life.
