Amanda was terrific! Very personable and great demeanor. I felt very comfortable talking with her. We talked about a host of things not just about the gyn visit.
She was really amazing in terms of her manner and ability to look me in the eye and present, and intervening to make helpful suggestions to optimise my help. I wish there was a way that younger people understood trauma that are but I just don’t think they can if they haven’t experienced any to that degree. When I mentioned my history gynecologically with my son and his death it’s like it fell on deaf ears because it just didn’t register. Whereas when I first met with Dr Zax something about her gravity as a person she immediately knew that was incredibly heavyweight experience to have lived through and made a simple acknowledgement that made me feel like she understood that was something massive to be carrying. Amanda is great. It’s just lonely where younger people don’t necessarily have the ability to acknowledge a traumatic gynaecological history. But she’s really great I’m glad to have her as my new doctor. As I said before, she was amazing. The only issue is that I could tell she didn’t understand what to say when I described my gynaecological history tied to my son and his death at 8 years old after two cancers. It’s not particular to her but it’s just hard when people don’t understand how to acknowledge trauma or have a sense of how massive it is. It felt like she just didn’t have any building to resonate with that experience so we just skipped over it. But my history with my gynaecological chair is intertwined with what happened to him so it’s part of getting to know me even though it’s a rare history. Young people I think just don’t necessarily understand trauma unless they’ve experienced it she may have or just wasn’t good at acknowledging mine. But she was really really lovely and incredibly hopeful so I’m very very very grateful to have her help and for her to be my new gynaecologist.
