A former northerner, Dr. McCullen grew up in Attleboro, Massachusetts. Growing up, Dr. McCullen always had a nurturing side and loved taking care of others. As she grew, her compassionate nature and love for science led her to a career in medicine. Dr. McCullen attended Boston University where she graduated Cum Laude; she stayed in Boston to attend Tufts University School of Medicine where she received her Medical Doctor degree. During her first year, she received an award in recognition in anatomy. Dr. McCullen was the president of American Medical Women’s Association student section for her local chapter and an active student member in the Massachusetts Medical Society while at Tufts. After receiving her Medical Doctor degree, she completed her internship and residency at University of Michigan Medical Center in Ann Arbor, Michigan. During her residency, she was the president of the House Officer Association and a member of the Norman F. Miller Society. She finished her residency in 1994 and married her husband Paul. Together they escaped the cold wintery weather and moved to Bradenton in July of 1994.
Dr. McCullen practiced Ob/Gyn here in Bradenton and in 2003 joined together with Dr. Alvarez, her friend and colleague. She has remained passionate about her work and continues to provide the highest quality obstetrical and gynecological care for women. She understands that women are always spending their time taking care of others and so she has dedicated her time to take care of them. She is the current Chairman of Ob/Gyn Department at Lakewood Ranch Medical Center Hospital and has been for the past six years. Dr McCullen has been president of the Manatee County Medical Society for two terms and was president of the We Care Incorporation for six years. She is currently involved in the free mammogram program through We Care Inc that is funded by a Susan G. Kommen grant.
What Dr. McCullen loves most about being an Ob/Gyn is the diversity of the field. She also loves the strong relationships she has built with her patients. Many of the women she currently treats have been seeing her for years, and some even travel from out of state for visits with her. She believes that good doctor and patient relationships are the key to quality healthcare.
