For once in my life, I heard a possibility of why I am having 10/10 level pain cramps for the past several years. While other doctors brush it off as Normal. Bad news I might have it, good news I am not crazy.

Dr. Swarz was wonderful. I'd give 5 stars except making an appointment was really bad. Dr. Cleberg is my usual doctor. A problem started that might indicate a serious health issue. I called to make an appointment and was told Dr. Cleberg didn't have any until 10/19, i.e., a month later. I could have seen a nurse practitioner in two weeks. My problem needs a doctor, not a nurse. I asked if I could make both appointments, at least get started with the nurse, then continue with Dr. Cleberg. No. I asked if they have a cancelation list. No. I was truly shocked. I started with Dr. Townsend 32 years ago. Capital Women's Care bought his practice, he retired, and Dr. Cleberg took over with his patients. When I have a scary problem, the best they do is give me an appointment in a month? That night, I sent Dr. Cleberg a message in the portal. The next morning, someone called to offer me an appointment the following day with Dr. Swarz. I should not have had to go through this. I even contacted my primary care doctor, who gave me a referral to a gyn in their system. The people making appointments need to differentiate routine appointments from serious problem appointments.
Pros 1. The doctor was pleasant to interact with and spirited. 2. She had a good knowledge of the medical conditions related to endometriosis. Cons 1. Would benefit from more explanation regarding the condition and management. There were some inconsistencies in the explanations. 2. Would benefit from some compassionate reassurance regarding diagnoses and management.

Dr. Swartz was amazing. She spent so much time with me, answered all of my questions, and is the first OBGYN in 15 years who has validated any of my concerns and done follow up work on my very painful periods. I’ve seen other Capital Women’s Care OBGYN, and none of them asked follow up questions to understand what it meant for me to have such painful periods. It’s really horrific that it takes an average of 7-10 years for a woman to get diagnosed with endometriosis when 1 in ten women have it. It feels like there should be much better training for OBGYNs on asking follow up questions about painful periods so patients can be referred to a specialist much more quickly. I’d really like to see every capital woman’s care doctor be trained on asking follow up questions when patients mention painful periods (including identifying non-gyn but endo-adjacent symptoms like IBS, hip pain, etc.), as well as gettjng their patients to specialists, instead of just defaulting to recommending birth control or Advil.
