About Christine Hunter, MD

Dr. Hunter is a seventh generation Charlestonian. She was born at Roper Hospital and raised on James Island, SC. She has always loved the Lowcountry and considers it among the most beautiful areas of the US. Her bio is a story of returning home. She has lived and worked in this area most of her adult life.

Dr. Hunter attended Duke University, graduating with a double major in Electrical and Biomedical Engineering. She returned to the Lowcountry for medical school at MUSC, where she met her husband, Dr. Jairy C. Hunter, of Summerville. During med school, she worked at General Engineering Labs for George and Molly Green, who later founded Water Missions International.

After medical school, she completed a residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond. Christy again returned home to join Lowcountry Women’s Specialists, where she has worked since 1997. She is Board Certified in Ob/Gyn and is a Fellow of the American College of Gynecology. She has seen the practice and the area grow and change in ways unimaginable over the past 16 years, and she is proud of the work LCWS has done to serve the women and families of the Lowcountry.

Dr. Hunter lives in Summerville with her husband and two daughters, Lily Cate and Ella. The family’s interests include going to the beach, Disney, soccer, ballet, piano and violin. They are active members of East Cooper Baptist Church, and ardent supporters of Charleston Southern University and other non-profit organizations. Dr. Hunter was recently elected to the Board of Trustees of Pinewood Preparatory School in Summerville.

Dr. Hunter’s professional interests include high-risk pregnancy, infertility and minimally invasive robotic surgery, and the management of menopausal symptoms. In addition, she still enjoys delivering babies and working closely with practice employees and her partners. She is happy to be part of a practice with a strong reputation for being leaders in the community.
