Dena Howerton is a Certified Nurse-Midwife (CNM) with over 30 years of experience in nursing, and 25 years as a CNM. She believes that all women should have the freedom to make informed decisions about their healthcare needs. As a Nurse-midwife, Dena works to collaborate with each patient and walk alongside them to support them no matter where they are in their healthcare journey. She is dedicated to providing compassionate care, treating her patients as she would want to be treated during one of the most significant and vulnerable periods of their lives.

Dena received her bachelors of science in nursing from Southwestern Adventist University in Keene, Texas. After graduation, she worked as a labor and delivery nurse at Huguley Memorial Hospital. During her time there and through her own childrens’ birth experiences, she realized that different options were available for childbirth. This began her interest in midwifery. Dena went on to receive her Certificate of Nurse-Midwifery from the Parkland School of Nurse-Midwifery in Dallas. She then decided to further her education and received her Masters of Science in Nursing from Texas Woman’s University. Dena has been serving women and babies in the Dallas, Fort Worth, Irving and Cleburne areas since 1993. Prior to joining Grace, Dena practiced as a CNM at Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas, MacArthur Medical Center in Irving, as well as at Texas Health Women’s Care in Cleburne, Texas.

At Grace, Dena will provide full-scope care as a Nurse-Midwife. Meaning, she will care for her patients during prenatal, delivery, postpartum and beyond. She will also offer well-women exams, contraception and see women for minor gynecological issues.

In her spare time Dena loves to spend time with her family and their dogs. She and her husband of 30 years have three adult sons, and a daughter-in-law. She also enjoys traveling, cooking and the great outdoors.
