About Elizabeth Coviello, DO

Dr. Coviello is dedicated to providing compassionate, high-quality care tailored to the unique needs of each patient and family. As a mother of two young girls who required Maternal-Fetal Medicine care during her pregnancy, she understands the challenges and concerns associated with high-risk pregnancies.

Dr. Coviello brings a wealth of knowledge to the Calla Perinatal Women’s Center team with more than 13 years of experience. She earned her BA in Communications with a focus in broadcast journalism from Pennsylvania State University and completed her medical education at the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine.

Dr. Coviello went on to complete her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at MedStar Washington Hospital Center and MedStar Georgetown University Hospital, where she served as administrative chief resident and received numerous awards recognizing her excellence in teaching, leadership, and research. She stayed to complete her Maternal-Fetal Medicine fellowship where she developed a passion for preeclampsia and early identification of postpartum hemorrhage.

Following fellowship, Dr. Coviello joined the faculty at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she served as Medical Director of Labor and Delivery at North Carolina Women’s Hospital. In this role, she implemented several quality improvement initiatives and patient safety protocols to optimize maternal outcomes in high-risk pregnancies.

Her clinical and research interests include hypertensive disorders of pregnancy, fetal growth restriction, preeclampsia, stillbirth, postpartum hemorrhage, and systems-based quality improvement. At Calla Perinatal, Dr. Coviello will continue her advocacy for early identification and intervention to prevent postpartum hemorrhage in collaboration with Stryker, a medical and surgical device company. As a consultant to Stryker, Dr Coviello is involved in the development of innovative technologies aimed at reducing maternal morbidity related to hemorrhage and high-risk pregnancies.

Outside of medicine, Dr Coviello enjoys weekends at the beach with family and friends, traveling, chasing after her two young daughters with her husband, and everything Penn State football.
