She graduated in 1980 from Tufts University in Medord, Massachusetts with her Bachelor of Science in Biology, majoring in Biological Basis of Behavior. She received her Doctorate of Medicine in 1985 from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, New Jersey Medical School.
